SCOPE II - It's like having an optimization expert at your side
SCOPE II material optimization software is designed for metal producers, service centers and manufacturers
that produce slit coils from master coils. The software is used in the production scheduling process to
quickly and easily determine cost efficient ways to slit daily coil requirements.
SCOPE II analyzes slit coil requirements, equipment constraints, material and production costs, and
available master coil and restock inventory. It determines the best slitting patterns that minimize scrap
loss and production costs. Optimization settings allow the user to balance between material utilization,
production costs, and the number of setups.
Using SCOPE II minimizes planning time and production costs, as well as the time it takes to implement
changes in production schedules or slit coil demands. Users can quickly evaluate different scenarios for
producing slit coils before scheduling production.
An optimization study is easy to perform
The user starts a SCOPE II optimization study by providing slit coil, constraint, and master coil
information for the material to be optimized. The slit and master sheet information may be quickly and
easily entered in the spreadsheet-like Slit Coils and Master Coils windows, respectively. Or, the
information may be imported from other systems.
Once the slit coil and master coil data is ready, the user starts the optimization routine by simply
clicking the Go button. The software first checks the data to insure a valid analysis will be performed.
The software then automatically determines the slitting patterns -- typically within 5 to 10 minutes.
While the software performs the calculations, the Optimization Status Window displays the progress and
percentage complete.
When the optimization routine completes, the View Patterns Window is displayed. The slitting patterns
are graphically displayed, along with solution statistics -- such as scrap, cost, slit coils produced and
master coils used. The user can interactively edit the slitting patterns, and print reports containing
information for scheduling and production orders.
Long Term Investment
SCOPE II will pay for itself in 1 to 4 months. In all succeeding months and years, the savings will be
greater, since the software was paid-in-full the first year. Because operating and material costs tend to
increase over time, savings will increase also.
Since the software will be used as long as your company is in the slitting business, funds spent on SCOPE
