HIPAA is the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. The primary goal of the law is to make it easier for people to keep health insurance, protect the confidentiality and security of healthcare information and help the healthcare industry control administrative costs.
The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, enacted as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, was signed into law in 2009, to promote the adoption and meaningful use of health information technology. Subtitle D of the HITECH Act addresses the privacy and security concerns associated with the electronic transmission of health information, in part, through several provisions that strengthen the civil and criminal enforcement of the HIPAA rules.
Both HIPAA and HITECH have significant requirements for “Covered Entities” and their “Business Associates”.
Wolf Consulting, Inc. is facilitating our annual HIPAA and HITECH roundtable discussion on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at our office in Monroeville. During this session, we’ll discuss various aspects of HIPAA and HITECH. This year our plan is to focus our discussion on how attendees perform their annual HIPAA Assessment and Risk Analysis. We’ll discuss when the assessment is performed, how often, tools used, report format, follow-ups, etc. Some of the discussion content will come from Wolf Consulting. Other content will come from discussions between various clients in attendance. We ask all attendees to bring their most recent annual HIPAA Assessment and Risk Analysis documents so they can refer to them during the discussions. Clients are not expected to share copies of their documents with other attendees.
This Roundtable Discussion is designed for business owners, executives and managers of existing clients of Wolf Consulting, Inc. who deal with electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) and the requirements of HIPAA and HITECH. Naturally there will be a little bit of technical discussion, but most of the discussions will be at a higher business level and not be very technical.
The session is free of charge, but seating is limited. If you would like to reserve your seat, or if you have any questions, please call our office at 724-325-2900 x4. Attendees rated last year’s 2015 HIPAA Roundtable Discussion as very useful. We hope you’ll attend.
